How to Make Money on Instagram in 2026: Every Method + Who Qualifies

Which Instagram money features exist, who qualifies, what's dead, and what works in the EU and Czech Republic.

Quick answer

You can earn on Instagram through Meta's Subscriptions and Gifts, brand deals via Creator Marketplace, or your own products and services. Live needs 1,000 followers and Gifts needed 5,000 per Meta's 2023 post. About half of creators earn under $15,000 a year (NeoReach 2025 survey, 50.71%).

Instagram has two kinds of money: what Meta pays you directly (Subscriptions, Gifts, invite-only bonuses) and what you earn around the platform (brand deals, your own shop, affiliate links, services). Most guides blur them together. This one separates them, puts the thresholds in one table, and flags the features Meta has already killed so you don't waste a week looking for a button that no longer exists.

Everything below was checked on 29 October 2026 against the sources listed on this page. Where Meta doesn't publish a number, we say so instead of guessing. Earnings figures are labelled as estimates with their source.

First, a reality check on the money

NeoReach's 2025 Creator Earnings Report, a survey of 3,000+ creators published on 15 July 2025, found that 50.71% of creators earn under $15,000 a year (up from 48.10% in 2023). Among full-time creators, 56.55% earn below the $44,000 US living-wage line. The same report puts average Instagram creator income at $81,700, the highest of the platforms it covers, which tells you the spread is huge: a few big earners pull the average up.

The useful part for you: NeoReach says income growth accelerates once annual earnings pass roughly $15,000, and 49% of surveyed creators named brand deals as their main revenue source, and 18% named self-owned businesses. So the practical plan is to stack several small streams rather than wait for one platform payout to be your salary.

Every method, side by side

Thresholds below come from Meta's own pages. "Check in-app" means Meta's public pages didn't give a number, so look in Professional dashboard on your account, which shows what you're eligible for.

The Meta-paid options in detail

Subscriptions

Your followers pay a monthly price you choose for exclusive posts, Stories, Reels and lives, subscriber highlights, and a badge next to their comments. Meta's guidance is to post to the subscriber space consistently. The country list from 20 September 2023 includes Czechia, Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovakia, Italy, Spain and France, so a Czech creator can use it. Meta's page doesn't publish the revenue split, so we won't quote one.

Meta's own showcase example was a creator making about 31,000 Australian dollars a month from 3,000+ subscribers. Treat that as an estimate from a handpicked success story, not a benchmark.

Gifts

Fans buy Stars and send gifts on your Reels or during Live. Meta's November 2023 post lists Czechia among the countries and sets the bar at a professional account, age 18+, compliance with monetization policies and at least 5,000 followers. That is the latest follower number Meta has published; Meta has adjusted programs since, so confirm in the dashboard before planning around it. Don't plan around a specific Star rate either until you've read the current terms in the app.

Invite-only bonuses and profile ads

Bonuses pay on Reels plays and photo views during a set window, but the 2023 test covered the US, South Korea and Japan and was invite-only. In the EU, treat it as "not a plan". Same for ads on profile.

Live now needs 1,000 followers

Since early August 2025 only public accounts with 1,000+ followers see the Live option. That matters because Gifts and live-based earning run through Live. PetaPixel and Metricool both reported the change; Metricool notes it was rolled out quietly and Meta hadn't explained it.

If you're sitting at 600 followers and want Live, the free route is posting consistently, as laid out in our guide to growing on Instagram organically. Some people also add a starter boost to cross the line sooner.

If you only need to clear the 1,000 line

SocFlare (socflare.com) lists 500 Instagram followers at $5.49 and 1,000 at $9.99. Ordering needs only your public username, delivery starts within minutes, and refills for followers have no time limit. Read our safety checklist first, then check the Instagram follower packages if it fits.

The off-platform options (usually where the money is)

NeoReach found 49% of creators earn most of their revenue from brand deals, so our advice is to treat platform payouts as a bonus and deals and products as the base.

A six-step order of operations

  1. Switch to a professional account (Creator or Business) in settings.
  2. Open the Professional dashboard and note which monetization tools show as available in your country.
  3. Check your age is 18+ and your followers against the thresholds above (1,000 for Live; Gifts was 5,000 per Meta's 2023 post).
  4. Pick one off-platform stream first: UGC, a service, or a small digital product. These work at any follower count.
  5. Build a one-page media kit with average Reel views, audience countries and two example results, then add yourself to Creator Marketplace if it appears for you.
  6. Turn on Subscriptions or Gifts only once you can post to them weekly. Track how much each stream adds so you can drop the ones that don't.

EU and Czech Republic: the short version

Subscriptions and Gifts both list Czechia. If you also post on TikTok, availability there differs; see how to make money on TikTok. The invite-only bonus and profile-ads tests listed no EU countries. Creator Marketplace covers several EU states but Meta's announcement doesn't name Czechia. Reach drives all of it, so it helps to know how the algorithm ranks posts.

Common questions

How many followers do you need to make money on Instagram?

There is no single number. Live needs 1,000 followers on a public account, Gifts listed 5,000 in Meta's November 2023 announcement, and services, UGC and digital products have no minimum.

Are Instagram Subscriptions and Gifts available in the Czech Republic?

Yes. Czechia appears on Meta's Subscriptions country list (20 September 2023) and on the Gifts country list in Meta's November 2023 post. Check your professional dashboard for current eligibility.

Does Instagram still have an affiliate program?

No. Instagram's native affiliate test shut on 31 August 2022. You can still use third-party affiliate links from merchants' own programs.

Can I still sell through Instagram Live?

Live product tagging ended on 16 March 2023, and in-app checkout has since been wound down, so purchases finish on your website. Many sellers send the product link by DM when viewers comment a keyword.

How much do most Instagram creators earn?

Most earn little. NeoReach's 2025 survey of 3,000+ creators found 50.71% earn under $15,000 a year, and that is an estimate across platforms, not a promise for any account.

What is the Instagram Creator Marketplace?

It is Meta's tool where brands find creators through Meta Business Suite and creators build a portfolio in the professional dashboard. Ten more countries were added on 7 May 2024, including Germany, Spain and France.

Do I need a professional account to earn on Instagram?

Yes for Gifts and the in-app tools, and it is the easiest way to see what you qualify for. Meta's Gifts rules also require you to be 18 or older. See our organic growth guide for getting to the thresholds.
